The Treasure Valley Wine Society (TVWS) introduced some of the new Idaho wineries to almost 40 people last night at their January tasting. The presenters were Kathy Johnson, representing Terra Nativa Vineyards, Carrie Sullivan the wine maker from Telaya Wine Co., and Leslie Preston, the wine maker at Coiled Wines. Here are some photos from the evening and the wines we tasted are listed below. The photo here is a poster that shows some of the different types of wines. Left-Click any of these photos to enlarge. Cheers!
The new Board of Directors of the TVWS have great pride in these programs and are extremely happy when the number of people that attend the tastings exceed their expectations. You can meet the Board by checking out Meet The TVWS Board of Directors.
The wines of the evening. Enjoy!
2009 Terra Nativa Vineyards Sunset Red
It is said that the flavors build as the wine sits, but I never saw this happen. Pairs with cheese and meats.
2010 Coiled Wines Black Mamba
One of the better wines of the night, in my opinion. Black cherry and licorice on the nose. Dark fruit and chocolate on the palate.
2009 Coiled Wines Sidewinder Syrah
For me, too many flavors and aromas in this wine.
2009 Telaya Wines Turas
Again, one of the better wines of the evening. 66% Syrah, 17% Merlot and 17% Cabernet. A nice bold taste without over powering the food. Nice fruity plum.
2009 Telaya Wines Syrah
It looks like the most of the Syrahs took the prize for the evening for me. Deep, dark red with a jammy texture to it. Great with the pork tonight.
2011 Telaya Wines Viognier
In my opinion, this Viognier fell short of the mark. Slightly sour on the tongue.
