Wines of the Loire

Sorry about the delay in posting this. Almost a week late! Time sure does flyby when you are not aware of the existence of anything! In the photo at left, Anna Ravegum, the Presenter for the Loire Wine Tasting on June 8, explains the wine to some of the TVWS members. Thanks Anna, for a good job!

Before we get to the photos, here is some information that Anna presented about the Loire wines. Cheers!

“Of all of the French wine producing regions, the Loire might produces the greatest variety of wines. They range from still to sparkling, very dry and acidic to hearty sweet, and clear in color to a deep purple. The diversity of wine produced in this region is due in part to its dynamic climate, which ranges from Continental to Mediterranean. This region is best known for Sauvignon blanc, Chenin blanc and Cabernet Franc. Most famous areas Loire Valley may be Sancerre and Vouvray. 53 AOC’s.

07 La Pepiere Granite de Clisson (Muscadet – Sevre and Main) sur lies 24 months. A white wine grape that originated in Burgundy, Melon de Bourgogne has, sadly, essentially vanished from that region. But fans of the varietal need not despair; its virtual disappearance from this pricy zip code has not prevented it from thriving in the Loire Valley, where it is made into the affordable, zippy, mineral, citrusy wines of Muscadet that pair so well with oysters. The best of those wines come from the region Muscadet de Sèvre et Maine. It is sometimes simply referred to as Muscadet.
