Merryvale Starmont Napa Tasting at Grape Escape Tuesday May 3rd

Tonight I announce a special wine tasting at Grape Escape downtown on Tuesday May 3rd from 5 to 8 pm.

I am proud to present four premium wines from Merryvale Starmont Winery in Napa California (and one Merryvale Napa label to heighten the experience).
The wines are expensive with high scores, so please take this rare opportunity to stop by and taste the flight of all five for the ridiculous low price of $10 – check out the ratings from real wine critics below:

2009 Starmont Sauvignon Blanc, Napa Valley
“For a larger label, Starmont uses a surprising amount of barrel fermentation; even so, it keeps its fresh fruit. Full, powerful flavors of nectarine and Meyer lemon are edged by a subtle grassy, stony bite. Juicy and generous, with fruit that carries through.” – Jon Bonné, Wine Editor San Francisco Chronicle

2008 Starmont Chardonnay, Napa Valley
“At the top of the list is Merryvale’s Starmont Chardonnay, a vibrant wine made at Merryvale’s solar-powered winery in south Napa from a mix of vineyards. Fresh and vibrant, with a full-bodied mix of tangerine, nectarine, peach and pear flavors that are intense, complex, layered and cleansing. This holds on to its core fruitiness. Drink now through 2013.” – James Laube 90 Points Wine Spectator

2006 Starmont Merlot, Napa Valley
“Quite rich, this Merlot shows real Napa character in the ripe fruit and quality of the tannins. It brims with blackberry, currant, cherry and herb flavors, and feels well-structured and distinguished in the mouth. Best now.” Steve Heimoff, 88 Points Wine Enthusiast.

2007 Starmont Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley
“Napa’s biggest strength has always been its nearly magic ability to grow Cabernet. If we’re moving toward wines that celebrate that, while shedding the winemaking fat they’ve gained in recent years, fantastic. I’m not sure 2007 fully reflects that transition, but it offers some promising hints, including the 2007 Starmont Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. A lighter touch with new oak brings out deeply extracted black cherry flavors and solid food-friendly tannins, edged by alluring olive and coffee accents that round out the black-fruit scents. Drink it young but give it some air.” – Jon Bonné, Wine Editor San Francisco Chronicle

2006 Merryvale Napa Merlot, Napa Valley
“A sleeper of the vintage, the 2006 Merlot (90% Merlot and the rest Petit Verdot, Malbec, and Cabernet Sauvignon) offers smoky, charcoal, plum, licorice, currant, and berry notes as well as a soft, seductive texture, medium to full body, and a delicious, forward fruit character. It should drink well for 10-12 years.

“This is an impressive group of wines from Merryvale Vineyards, a winery whose offerings I have not tasted for many years.” – Robert Parker 88 Points Wine Advocate

Merryvale Starmont Winery is committed to environmentally sound practices. Here is some great information on their progressive philosophy stolen directly from the website:
Starmont is Merryvale’s vision for a state-of-the-art “green” facility to craft premium wines from sustainably farmed grapes. In order to achieve the highest standards in sustainable farming, Merryvale Starmont is equipped with a state of the art Solarcraft Solar Energy System which generates enough electricity each day to power over 250 average homes, sparing the air of over 472 tons of harmful greenhouse gases annually.
Over the next 30 years, the pollution saved will be equivalent to driving over 32 million miles.
They recycle 100% of the winery process water as vineyard and landscaping irrigation and is fitted with energy efficient lighting, motors, compressors, double paned windows and a fully insulated building (roof and walls).
They are proud members of the Napa Sustainable Winegrowing Group, and strongly urge all of their partnering growers to farm sustainably.

Please come down and taste these fantastic wines with us – Grape Escape owner Pug Ostling has set aside a special bottle from his private collection as a raffle item. If you buy a flight, or a glass of any of the Merryvale Starmont wines, you are eligible to enter the drawing for a magnum bottle of 2003 Starmont Cabernet Sauvignon (Critics Gold Medal Winner at the International Wine Competition). You need not be present for the drawing to win, and you will not be put on any mailing lists etc. Looking forward to seeing you there Cheers!
